Amateur Shane Lowry of Ireland won the 3 Irish Open today, beating Robert Rock in a playoff. Pablo Martin was the low spaniard in the field. Jose Maria Olazabal finished on Even par in a tie for 50th (possibly - I don't know if that changed once you exclude Lowry due to his amateur status). Jose Manuel Lara was the high spaniard with a final score of +2.
The weather sucked there. All rainy and dreary. At least it's sunny in Texas for the Valero Texas Open.

What an incredible win it was for Shane Lowry. When he hit his third shot to the 18th to within four feet, I simply assumed that he would hole that and as I had to rush out I didn’t think it was important to hang around for another few minutes to see him clinch the deal. When I came back and later heard that the amateur had won the title, I didn’t for a moment think that it would be in the way he did it. Finally on the 72nd hole, perhaps, the enormity of the achievement dawned upon and him that led to him missing the putt. I guess everyone must have given him no chance of winning after missing such a small putt but the amateur did well enough to hang on for dear life and win on his debut.
To be honest, that missed putt on the 18th was an aberration because otherwise, he was making some incredible putts on the last few holes and the cheers from the crowd bore testimony to that fact.
All credit must go to Rock who made a great birdie on the par-3 17th to suddenly emerge as the main threat ahead of Johan Edfors, who till then was giving Lowry a tough fight.
In the end, what a pity the young man cant take back a single penny from the win!
