How Cool Is This???

Olympics: During the Beach Volleball match between the US and Spain, the people in attendance were singing West Virginia's State Song: Country Roads!!!

Actually, I believe the official state song is "Those West Virginia Hills" ... Oh those hills, beautiful hills, How I love those West Virginia hills! If o'er sea o'er land I roam, Still I'll think of happy home, And my friends among the West Virginia hills."

I can still hear my mother singing it whenever we went back for a visit.

Interestingly, the Danoffs, writers of Country Roads, were geographically challenged. The Shenandoah River is not in West Virginia, nor is the Blue Ridge, except for a little bit at Harpers Ferry.

There was audio during beach volleyball? I was too distracted by the painted-on bathing suits...

No one in WV knows the words to Those West Virginia Hills. We're too busy in school learning to pray with the Pledge of Allegiance to learn the words to that song. And with the Governor changing our State motto and all on a whim like he's prone to do, he may have changed the state song to the Macarena and the citizens of the state wouldn't even know or have a choice in it. WV is Open for Business you know. LOL
