I'm watching the Tennis Channel and an interview with Mary Jo Fernandez. She said that the transition from Juniors to the Pros was tough because as a Junior she was used to winning a lot of tournaments, but when she turned pro she didn't win for 4 years and that shook her confidence.
An interesting point of view and one that could be considered when thinking about Michelle Wie's decision to turn pro.

This would absolutely be a contributing factor. When a person who is playing at the top level of a lower league moves up, their momentum is at risk of faltering. If they don't begin to define their successes as something other than winning every event, they run the risk of failing to improve.
Think about weight loss. If you see every pound as an individual success you are likely to continue losing weight, if the only thing you consider a success is losing a full 35 pounds, you will likely give up due to a lack of gratification in the process.
